How it works
First choose whether your amount already includes VAT (a shelf price or a receipt total) or is before VAT (a quote written as "+VAT"), then enter it. You get the pre-VAT price, the VAT and the total instantly.
Formula
VAT included (remove VAT): VAT = total × 7 ÷ 107, and pre-VAT price = total − VAT
Before VAT (add VAT): VAT = price × 7%, and total = price + VAT
FAQ
How do I remove 7% VAT from a VAT-inclusive price?
Multiply the VAT-inclusive price by 7 and divide by 107 to get the VAT. The pre-VAT price is the total minus the VAT. For example, 1,070 baht contains 70 baht VAT, so the pre-VAT price is 1,000 baht.
Why not just take 7% of the total?
Because the 7% is charged on the pre-VAT price, not on the total. Taking 7% of the total overstates the VAT. Use 7/107 instead.
What is the current VAT rate in Thailand?
The rate in use is 7%. The legal rate is 10%, but it has been reduced to 7% by royal decree, renewed each year. You can change the rate in this calculator.
How is VAT rounded?
VAT is rounded half-up to 2 decimals, and the other amount is calculated from the difference, so the pre-VAT price plus VAT always equals the total exactly.
