    Devine: men 50 + 2.3X · women 45.5 + 2.3X

    Robinson: men 52 + 1.9X · women 49 + 1.7X

    Miller: men 56.2 + 1.41X · women 53.1 + 1.36X

    FAQ

    How is ideal weight calculated?

The Devine, Robinson and Miller formulas use height and sex. They start from a base weight at 5 feet (152.4 cm) and add a fixed amount per inch above that. They were originally used in medicine to calculate drug doses.

Why do the formulas give different results?

Each was developed from different data, so treat the results as a range rather than one number, and compare with the healthy BMI weight range, which is wider and better for setting goals.

Do they work for people shorter than 152 cm?

These formulas are designed for people 152.4 cm or taller. Below that the results are too low, so use the healthy BMI range instead.
